“Living in the Kaş area as an ex-pat has many advantages and possibly a few disadvantages (if you consider the lack of access to a large shopping mall a disadvantage)…”
Every month Alex Smith will share his perspective on the expats of Kaş. See here for a list of his articles. Read more about expats in Turkey…
Alex Smith was born, raised and lived the vast majority of his life in the North West of England. He is married to Barbara with two adult step children aged 30 and 26. Alex and Barbara have always enjoyed the area around Kaş, Turkey ever since they first visited in 1998 and immediately fell in love with the town. They returned intermittently in the following years and finally moved here in 2007 after retiring from their teaching jobs. Alex first began guiding tours for Bougainville Travel during the 2009 season and has continued to the present.
Alex and Barbara like Living the Gokseki area of Kaş. The pace of life is much slower and they don’t feel as if they are chasing something all the time nor constantly meeting deadlines. Their life has become much more relaxed. They also like that the Kaş area has outstanding natural beauty, that they have many close friends of different nationalities and have always felt welcome in Kaş. Living in the Kaş area is also a bonus for many of their friends and family who are quite keen to hop on a plane and come and stay with Alex and Barbara.
Culturally there are differences between Kaş and Manchester but they have not found them major obstacles in any sense, a little understanding and empathy is usually all that is needed.
